DirectRooms.com reveals that Sabah will observe a public holiday on Friday 2 April 2011 as Christians across the region celebrate Good Friday.
PHUKET, THAILAND, March 10, 2011 /Religion PR News/ -- The day commemorates the holiest day when Jesus Christ was crucified by the Romans and left to die. Stories from Bible say that he died willingly upon the cross in order to save the world from sin. Although the day is marked as a public holiday in Sabah and Sarawak, it is not an official holiday across peninsular Malaysia, so instead Christians take time off work to celebrate the occasion.
In Sabah, Malaysians will visit their church to take part in several services on Good Friday. The most important service is held at 3pm, which is believed to be the exact time that Jesus Christ died on the cross.
Christians in Malaysia consider Good Friday to be the saddest day in the calendar and services consist of re-enactments called "The Way of Life" which depict the final hours of the Son of God's life. He story goes through 14 milestones, finishing with Christ being put inside a tomb.
The whole of Easter weekend consists of church services with the last being a celebration of his rising on Easter Sunday.
