Jason M. Chambers, Chaplain, Receives Professional Networking Community's Highest Honor

Jason M. Chambers is named Professional of the Year in Military Spiritual Support by Cambridge Who's Who

GREAT LAKES, IL, April 09, 2010 /Religion PR News/ --Jason M. Chambers, United States Navy Chaplain, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Military Spiritual Support. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.

Motivated by a desire to serve God and country and inspired by his grandfather, a minister, Jason M. Chambers entered religious service in 1998. Now a chaplain of the U.S. Navy, he supports the transformation of approximately 40,000 citizens into fleet-ready sailors. In charge of overseeing pastoral care and counseling, he is responsible for counseling recruits from two recruit barracks, acting as the command-wide suicide awareness and prevention officer, and instructing recruits on religious diversity and the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment. Mr. Chambers is also tasked with conducting and coordinating training for 87 lay ministers to ensure religious plurality in one of the largest religious ministry programs in the Navy.

Deeply proud of his work with young Americans, Mr. Chambers considers transforming lives and encouraging them to do their part in keeping the country great to be among the most rewarding aspects of his career. He has also brought his transformative ministry overseas, mentoring an Afghan religious and cultural affairs officer and his mullah. When their garrison reached CM-1 status, the highest level of readiness in the Afghan Army, they were able to distribute much-needed supplies and humanitarian aid throughout the region as a result of their collaboration. A former substance abuse counselor, Mr. Chambers saw first hand society's diminished value system and utilizes his experience in this to help his recruits identify some of these diminished values and open their eyes to how it harms their family and friends. In doing so, he hopes to build stronger families and communities.

Mr. Chambers received his master of divinity in 2005 from Memphis Theological Seminary and his bachelor of science in 2001 from Bethel College. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and The American Legion. A firm believer in the adage, "To whom much is given much is required," Mr. Chambers worked hard to assist his mother in establishing a scholarship fund in his grandfather's name that will help ministers through school. He considers this among his proudest accomplishments to date.
