Mary Fran Cassidy, MA Honored for Excellence in Religious Education
Mary Fran Cassidy Has Four Decades of Experience as a Liturgist, Musician and Educator
DUBLIN, OH, February 2, 2010 /Religion PR News/ --Mary Fran Cassidy, Liturgist and Director of Religious Education for St. Brigid of Kildare Parish, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in religious education.
Mary Fran Cassidy has enjoyed a varied 40-year career as a liturgist, musician and educator. Proud to be celebrating her 21st year at St. Brigid, she is in charge of overseeing religious education programs for students of all ages. She provides sacramental preparation courses, develops resources for teachers, and conducts adult faith enrichment classes and certification classes for catechists and teachers. A published author, Mrs. Cassidy wrote "Faith and Belief," a supplemental religion text for junior high students.
Committed to facilitating spiritual as well as academic enrichment, Mrs. Cassidy also directs retreats and workshops. She often utilizes music to deliver her message of love, serving as cantor and organist for St. Brigid in addition to her teaching duties. As the director of The Dublin Singers, she conducts choral and choreography workshops. A former English, music, religion and art teacher, Mrs. Cassidy considers giving free rein to her diverse talents to be the most rewarding aspect of her career at St. Brigid. She credits her success to the unwavering support of her father. She says, "My father was an excellent musician, a great tenor and a fine conductor. As my teacher, he guided me to higher and higher levels of achievement. As my critic, he led me to excellence."
A graduate of Ohio Dominican University in 2003, Mrs. Cassidy holds a Master of Arts in Theology. She graduated summa cum laude from Silver Lake College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Music, and completed post-graduate work in music at Silver Lake College, Penn State University and Kent State University. Additionally, she holds an advanced certification in catechesis and is a certified director of religious education through the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus. In recognition of excellence in her field, Mrs. Cassidy was honored with the Woman of the Year Award in 2006 by the Knights of Columbus and with the Religious Education Excellence Award in 1999 by the National Catholic Educational Association. In 2008, she was recognized by Cambridge Who's Who as an outstanding VIP of the Year.
Organizations of which Mrs. Cassidy is a member include the Ohio Choral Directors Association, the Ohio Directors of Religious Education Organization, the Diocesan Association of Religious Educators, the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership, the National Catholic Educational Association, the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of Parish Catechetical Directors, and the National Pastoral Musicians. She also gives generously to Bishop's Annual Appeal, the Marianist Mission, Maryknoll, the Association of the Miraculous Medal, the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the Columbus Museum of Art, the United Way, and the World Wildlife Fund.
