BANGKOK, THAILAND, April 09, 2010 /Religion PR News/ -- This is one of the most important days in Buddhism because it marks three of the most important transitions in the life of Buddha: his birth, his enlightenment and his eventual passing, all of which miraculously fall on the same month and date, the Vesak full moon.
With such an important Buddhist festival, all Bangkok hotels in the city will be full, with millions of visitors flocking to the capital to take part in the ceremonies. They pay their respects to their spiritual leader, the great Buddha, by giving flowers, presenting incense, as well as a variety of other gifts at the various temples throughout the city. The exact date of Visakha varies every year based upon the lunar calendar as used in different traditions, usually falling on the full moon of the fifth or sixth lunar month, which in 2010 is May 29th.
With Thailand in particular, the festival celebration's history goes back 700 years, making this one of the oldest traditions that people regularly participate in on a nationwide basis. Everyone will complete visits to the temples and bring gifts to place at the various shrines, as Bangkok transforms into a religious hub filled with worshippers from around the world, all there for the same reason: Buddha.
