"Equal Rights For All Americans" Petition Drive Launched

Universal Free Church says "It's no longer a crime to be gay in your own bedroom. Therefore, continued religious discrimination against same-sex marriage is now both unconstitutional and un-American."

WASHINGTON, DC, August 22, 2009 /Religion PR News/ -- UniversalFreeChurch.org today announced its national "Equal Rights For All Americans" petition drive.

The ERFAA campaign "calls on all decent Americans, straight or gay, to join together and put an end to religious bigotry that has stolen the Constitutional right of gay Americans to simply have their own private sex lives without being discriminated against," said church spokesperson Mary Cristos.

"We believe our fascist Catholic, Protestant, and Mormon politicians should stop reading their Bibles, and start reading our federal Constitution. It's no longer a crime to be gay in your own bedroom. Therefore, continued religious discrimination is now both unconstitutional and un-American," Cristos continued.

The Equal Rights For All Americans petition demands that federal Senators and Representatives vote to:

1) Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to allow equal marriage rights for same-sex couples who have been legally married in any state.

2) Enact the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to end workplace discrimination on the basis of gender orientation.

3) Repeal the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Act (DADT) to allow equal rights for all Americans in military service.

"Making sure gay Americans have the same marriage, employment, and military service rights as all other Americans is not asking for any special rights, it's just demanding equal rights. The same equal rights as everyone else already has," said Cristos.

"We believe now a slender majority of voting Americans would actually support equal rights for everyone, and no longer support Catholic, Protestant, and Mormon bigotry."

"In our Universal Free Church, every member is free to believe in one god, no god, or many gods." said Cristos. "And we don't discriminate based on race, gender, or gender orientation. So our call for volunteers and support is directed to every decent American, Christian or atheist, straight or gay, who simply believes in equal rights for everyone."

"Whether you're a non-bigoted Christian or Mormon, secular humanist, atheist, Wiccan, libertarian, gay, straight, or anything else, we need your support. Please visit us at UniversalFreeChurch.org for more information, or to download the Equal Rights For All Americans petition for distribution in your community."

"We're hoping all decent Americans will join together and finally put an end to Christian and Mormon bigotry that has stolen the fundamental right of gay Americans to simply live their own private lives in their own private ways," Cristos concluded.
