An Officer's Song: Dr. Wayne A. Gooden Testifies to Divine Intervention after September 11th
Cambridge Who's Who honors Dr. Wayne A. Gooden for 30 years
of demonstrated dedication to the United States of America
Hephzibah, GA, August 10, 2009 /Religion PR News/ -- Dr. Wayne A. Gooden, Gospel Music Performer and Retired Federal Police Officer of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of his career.
Before the Twin Towers were struck by commercial aircraft, September 11th, 2001 was like any other day for Dr. Wayne A. Gooden. At the time, he was working as a Federal Police Officer with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, attached to the Protective Service Unit, which involved protecting the Secretary of Defense, presidents of the U.S. and foreign dignitaries. He had thrived in law enforcement for nearly 28 years and possessed military experience including three completed tours in Vietnam. The morning of September 11th was not unlike other mornings - Wayne was scheduled for active duty at the Pentagon and was set to eat at his usual choice restaurant located inside the building. That is, until the Twin Towers were hit. Shocked, Wayne exited the plaza to phone his daughter. Just as he ended the conversation, the Pentagon was attacked. Through what he now believes was divine intervention, Wayne miraculously escaped. For his heroic efforts during the disaster, he received the Defense Protective Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Secret Service and the Certificate of Appreciation for Support from the Defense Protective Service during the 2001 presidential inauguration.
Prior to joining the military, Wayne Gooden was an enthusiastic gospel singer and witness. At the young age of five, he traveled with his father, Reverend Oscar T. Gooden, and began his singing career. As a teenager, Wayne traveled with his brother, singing and speaking at youth meetings. He became a youth director at the age of 17, after which he entered military service. So, when he was saved from the Pentagon disaster, and in 2003, a major automobile accident, Wayne felt that he had been saved by God. In 2005, Wayne decided that he would return to his first love, gospel music.
At the age of 63, Wayne began a new career singing gospel songs and sharing his spiritual experiences, recalling the terrible, miraculous events of September 11th. He named his ministry New Beginning in honor of his home church, New Beginning Full Gospel Church. His signature song, "Jesus Signed My Pardon," shares his testimony of survival and divine intervention. He has written three additional gospel songs, entitled "Bless God America Again," "One Hour too Late" and "Coming Home." In 2007, he performed at the world premier Gospel Music Event, and was honored at several benefit concerts. Looking forward, Wayne plans to continue singing and recording gospel music as well as sharing his testimony.
Wayne A. Gooden holds a Ph.D. in humanitarian studies from Emmanuel Baptist University, earned in 2006. He is affiliated with the Southern Gospel Musical Association and the Peace Officer Ministry Association.
