Celebrating Israel & Judaism
Congregation Shirat Shalom in Elgin told the story of Passover, our freedom from slavery. Now members observe Holocaust Remembrance Day, and participates in the Walk for Israel, proud of our heritage. We celebrate the Joys of Judaism and invite others to join us at our Conservative synagogue.
/Religion PR News/ - ELGIN, IL, May 04, 2008 - Celebrating Judaism by Linda Blatchford
In the past few weeks, members of Congregation Shirat Shalom in Elgin have celebrated our freedom from slavery in Egypt for the Passover Holiday. On April 30, we remembered the heroes and holocaust that took the lives of more than 6 million Jews and other nationalities. Hazzan Alexander researched actual Holocaust victims, their ages at death, where they died and made the experience more personal. We will never forget.
Going forward our celebrations include our Walk with Israel on Sunday, May 4 at McCormick Place from 10-1. Shirat Shalom will have face painting and an email sign-up list for those interested in getting more information about our friendly Jewish community in Elgin.
On May 10, an Adult Education class taught by Hazzan Sarah Alexander will focus on "Medinat Yisrael: 60 Years of Independence" at 12:30pm after Shabbat services.
On June 15, we will have a table at the Jewish Folk Festival in Chicago off of Oakton and Gross Point Roads.
We hope that Jews will visit Shirat Shalom to celebrate the Joys of Conservative Judaism with us.
